2009 Michael Hall Barossa Valley Shiraz, Stone Well

The Triangle Block vineyard lies in the Stonewell Valley on the eastern edge of the Seppeltsfield sub-region. Its gentle northerly aspect is coloured terracotta red by the distinct, iron-rich soils over clay found in parts of the northern Barossa. It is managed with minimal chemical inputs and is in conversion to biodynamic viticulture.
Fair winter rains led into a cool spring, hot summer and mild March. Hand-picked on 10 March from rows 1-27. Wild yeast ferment, pressed to barrel, 21 months in French oak barrels of which 60% new (Francois Freres), 18 months on lees, unfiltered.
Dried cranberry, red currants, jus, Génépi, fine grained tannins. Worth the wait.
2600 bottles produced.
