2017 Michael Hall Eden Valley Syrah, Flaxman’s Valley
The Naimanya vineyard sits high in the tiny sub-region of Flaxman’s Valley on soils of sandy loam, gravel and quartz over clay. At 520m elevation it is one of the highest Shiraz vineyards in South Australia.
High winter rains were followed by a cool spring and summer resulting in a late vintage. Hand-picked on 19th April, 86% de-stemmed to open fermenter, 14% whole-bunch in puncheon (25 days maceration), wild ferment, matured for 20 months in French oak (29% new).
