2021 Michael Hall Adelaide Hills Chardonnay, Piccadilly $55
2150 bottles produced

“This has impressive intensity and aromas of sliced peach, lemon and pear sit fresh amid nicely placed oak and a minerally edge. The palate is succulently fresh, with acidity drawing a mouthwatering finish deep. Sliced nectarines hold long and fresh. Drink now. Screw cap.”  95/100 Nick Stock, JamesSuckling.com

What a vintage!

Call it sublime or fool proof, vintage 2021 was blessed with optimal conditions. You won’t hear many complaints from South Australian growers while winemakers are pouring on the superlatives.

Mount Lofty in Piccadilly saw 650mm of winter rain from July through to December, average summer temperatures, some useful showers in January and a mild March recording a highest temperature of 27C. Perfect for Chardonnay!

Slow ripening fruit from Bernie Swaby’s Garden Block delivered well-balanced aromatic and phenolic maturity. Hand-picked on the 28th March, destemmed and pressed, wild yeast barrel-fermented, 20% malolactic fermentation, matured for 11months on yeast lees in French oak (29% new, Damy), filtered and bottled.
